Dr Grant Ballard-Tremeer
Course director
Grant is a leading expert in climate finance with over 25 years of experience in the field. He has worked on a wide range of climate finance projects across Africa and Asia, the Pacific and Caribbean, including the development of investment plans, the design of financial mechanisms, and the provision of technical assistance. Grant is a highly sought-after trainer and consultant, and he has delivered climate finance training workshops to hundreds of professionals around the world.
Ellie La Trobe-Hogan
Consultant
A passionate advocate for coastal communities, Ellie brings over 15 years of experience in climate finance to her training. With a strong background in project management and a talent for clear communication, Ellie excels at making complex topics accessible and engaging. She has a proven track record of success in securing funding for projects, in particular in island states, and is driven to support sustainable fisheries and ocean conservation. She has worked with numerous organisations, including the World Bank, GCF, GIZ, and the NDC Partnership.

Ari Rakatama
Consultant
Ari Rakatama is an Environmental and Resource Economist with over 20 years’ experience in forestry, environment, renewable energy, and sustainable development. He has experience across a broad range of low-carbon and climate-resilient projects, helping clients access climate finance, including Economic and Financial Analysis. Ari has delivered E Co. training, including in-person GCF training in Indonesia and the Philippines, and supported training in the middle-east. His expertise includes climate project formulation for funds including the GCF and GEF.
Clare Wingfield
Senior consultant
Clare is a highly experienced climate finance specialist with a demonstrated history of securing climate finance for projects worldwide. She has a strong background in project management and is a skilled facilitator and communicator. She has worked with numerous organisations, including the Adaptation Fund, the Green Climate Fund, and the Mitigation Action Facility. Clare brings a wealth of practical knowledge to her training, particularly in the areas of climate-resilient agriculture, nature-based solutions, and infrastructure development.
Dr Giorgos Gkiouzepas
Senior consultant
With over 20 years of experience, Giorgos is an expert in climate change policy and sustainability. He has provided expert support to EU institutions, UN agencies, and governments, focusing on the design and evaluation of climate adaptation projects and programmes. His expertise includes health and climate change, local-level adaptation, landscape management, and climate finance mechanisms. Giorgos is skilled in vulnerability and risk assessment, economic and financial analysis, feasibility studies for adaptation options, and monitoring and evaluation.

How would you describe E Co. institute to a friend or colleague?
We are a platform aiming to support you to mobilise climate finance. We want you to use the training and support provided by the E Co. institute to address the climate emergency through local action. We are driven by E Co's core values of excellence, empathy, connection, diversity, persistence and impact. That is our aspiration and ambition.
What’s included in a subscription to the E Co. institute?
We don’t yet know this, exactly, but we expect to offer first class theoretical and practical training for those looking to mobilise climate finance. We’ll cover all the skills needed, plus provide support and community interaction to help you in your climate finance journey. This may include 1-2-1 or small group “office hours” with technical specialists at E Co. plus regular updates and subject groups.
Who is a good fit for E Co. institute training?
Our training is designed to be accessible to individuals with a range of backgrounds. While a basic understanding of finance or environmental issues is helpful, it's not strictly required. We aim to provide introductory modules that cover foundational concepts and build on those with more advanced topics. We aim to focus on practical application, so an eagerness to learn is the most important prerequisite.
What are the pricing options, and are there discounts available for individuals or organisations?
We understand that budget considerations are crucial. Prior to our launch, we are exploring different approaches and options. Consider the options available to fund your skill development: from personal, readiness and organisational funding. We are exploring sponsorship options too. What is the time commitment for your training?
We recognise that your time is precious and have done our best to ensure your time investments are valuable, and our trainings aim to be succinct. But learning new skills takes time, so be prepared to make the effort to grow your skills and abilities. There'll be on-demand access, and flexibility in the in-person/in-video arrangements.
Will I gain a certificate at the end?
Yes! If you successfully complete learning objectives and reach pass-grades for course work, you will receive accredited certificates for courses and learning paths to add to your CV, LinkedIn and professional development records.
